Your Questions Answered

What is the difference between a Counsellor and a Psychologist?

Counsellors assists people “to develop understanding about themselves and to make changes in their lives”. It is expected that they ”work within a clearly contracted principled relationship that enables individuals to explore and resolve issues of an interpersonal or intra-personal nature.”

Psychologists are experts in human behaviour. Clinical psychologists help with the diagnosis and treatment of mental illnesses. Most psychologists also help mentally healthy people to find ways of functioning better.

What to expect in your first session?

It's best for you to arrive five minutes early, as you will need to complete a brief form to help me understand your life and concerns. The first session provides you with the opportunity to share why you are seeking counselling and how your life is being impacted, and for me to get to know you and your goals for therapy. We can discuss a plan that best supports you, within confidentiality and therapeutic boundaries.

Do I need a referral?

No, you can contact me directly to book an appointment.

What are the fees and can I claim a Medicare rebate?

Individual & Cancer Counselling sessions: $110.00 per session.  Chronic Illness Relationship Counselling: $150.00 per session.

Counselling is not covered for rebates under Medicare. These are reserved for clients who are assessed by a GP to have a Mental Health condition and are referred to either a Clinical or Registered Psychologist. My fees are reflective of this and cost less than the out-of-pocket expense of the standard consultation fee of a private practice psychologist (as recommended by the Australian Psychological Society).

What is your cancellation policy?

You can reschedule or cancel your appointment by contacting me. However, if you cancel, reschedule or fail to attend your scheduled appointment with less than 24 hours notice, a cancellation fee of 50% of the session fee will be charged. If you are unable to keep your appointment due to sudden illness or unexpected personal emergency, please contact me as soon as possible.

Thank you in advance for your respect and understanding.
